A series of extreme weather events have been sweeping across various regions in China, with heavy rainfall being the most recent cause for concern. On July 21st, northeastern and central Inner Mongolia, central Jilin, eastern Shanxi, south-central and northeastern Hebei, south-central Beijing, Tianjin, northwestern Shandong, eastern and southern Henan, north-central Anhui, south-central Jiangsu, Shanghai, east-central Hubei, northern Hunan, north of Jiangxi, northern Zhejiang, eastern Fujian, and other areas have experienced heavy rainfall. In a statement released by @ChinaWeather, this year's rainy season in North China officially opened on the 21st, with localized heavy rain affecting central Hebei, western and southern Beijing, eastern Tianjin, northeastern Inner Mongolia, and east-central Liaoning.
On July 21st, Chongqing experienced heavy rainfall as well, with the city's Shapingba station recording an hourly rainfall of 57.4 mm between 06:00 and 07:00 hours. Due to the inclement weather, Chongqing upgraded its alert system to issue a red alert for heavy rain in some areas, including Bishan, Yongchuan, and Beibei. Many people had to face knee-deep water while commuting to work that morning.
