In the heart of typhoon season, the fifth typhoon of the year, named "Dusuri," is expected to make landfall in the coastal areas of central Fujian and eastern Guangdong on July 28th. According to the Central Weather Bureau, this super typhoon is moving at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour in a northwesterly direction. Netizens are taking precautions, preparing for the potential impacts of the storm and making light of its unusual path, which has taken a turn close to a right angle.

The unconventional path of "Dusuri" has left many netizens in shock and amusement. Some have joked that this typhoon must be good at maths, while others have expressed concern over the potential hazards it may bring. Bepica, Wayne, and Nader, three netizens from different regions, shared their thoughts on the unusual path of the typhoon by creating graphics illustrating its trajectory (Figure 1-5).

While "Dusuri" continues to make headlines for its unique route, netizens are also aware of the potential dangers associated with typhoons. When discussing typhoons, thoughts immediately turn to fierce winds, torrential rains, and storm surges that can cause widespread damage, threaten human lives and safety, and result in significant economic losses. It's important to take precautions before, during, and after a typhoon to minimize potential harm.

Preparation is key in the face of a typhoon. The crucial time for preventing typhoon damage is 1-6 hours before landfall. During this time, it's advised not to venture outside, prepare essential items, and ensure doors and windows are securely closed (Figure 6). By taking these steps, individuals can help protect themselves and their property from the potential impacts of a typhoon.

In addition to the direct threats posed by typhoons, there are also indirect effects that need attention before and after a storm. These include potential power outages, transportation disruptions, and communication difficulties (Figure 7). By being aware of these additional hazards, individuals can better prepare themselves for a typhoon's impact.

As "Dusuri" continues its journey towards China, netizens remain vigilant yet lighthearted about its unusual path. Some have even joked that the typhoon might end up in Japan or Korea (Figure 8). However, with the potential danger it poses, individuals are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this typhoon season.

In conclusion, "Dusuri" is approaching China at a rapid pace, bringing with it both amusement and concern among netizens. As this super typhoon's path continues to be monitored, it's crucial for individuals in its projected path to stay prepared and take necessary steps to protect themselves and their property from potential harm.
