The city took proactive measures to drain the local lake before the typhoon hit, in an effort to withstand its impact. However, netizens on social media have expressed concern and shared their experiences of previous storms, including Typhoon "Moranti", which made landfall in southern Fujian in 2016 and caused significant damage to infrastructure and homes.
Reports from Xiamen Daily via reporter Chen Engr. Juan show a video of the financial centre building being hit by heavy rain, with water pouring down like a waterfall, echoing the warnings for people to stay indoors and avoid going out. The video has garnered attention on social media, with netizens expressing their fear of the storm's ferocity.
Quanzhou Station, Huian Dazhu Island Station, and Chongwu Station recorded gale-force winds of 11-12 at around 9 o'clock in the morning, with a gust of 13 reported in Shijing Town, Nan'an, Quanzhou.
As the typhoon continues to make its way northwest after landing, netizens have shared their experiences and safety tips, such as preparations for potential power outages, how to handle car stalls while driving during heavy rain, and coping with floods and landslides. The People's Daily has also released a guide on self-help strategies in critical situations, emphasizing the importance of being prepared beforehand.
